The National Coffee and Tea Association of Nigeria (NACOFTAN), under the leadership of its National President, Dr. Hassan Usman Kakara, has continued to deepen international engagement aimed at revitalising Nigeria’s coffee and tea industries and positioning Nigerian stakeholders within emerging global value chains.
On April 25, 2026, Dr. Kakara led a NACOFTAN delegation to Xianning, China, for on-site inspections and strategic exchanges focused on the development of green brick tea and black tea industries. The visit explored opportunities for bilateral trade, technology transfer, and industrial cooperation between Nigerian and Chinese tea stakeholders.
According to reports from Xianning media, the delegation examined processing systems, industrial infrastructure, and pathways to expand Xianning’s distinctive teas into West African markets through partnerships aligned with the Belt and Road Initiative. The discussions also centred on practical areas of cooperation, including tea processing technologies, agricultural exchange, market access, and supply chain collaboration.
The engagement reflects NACOFTAN’s broader commitment to rebuilding Nigeria’s tea and coffee sectors through strategic international partnerships, investment promotion, and farmer-focused industrial development. In recent months, the Association has intensified collaboration with public institutions, research bodies, and private-sector partners to strengthen Nigeria’s production capacity and export readiness.
As global demand for specialty beverages continues to grow, Nigeria is increasingly well-positioned to benefit from renewed interest in African-origin coffee and tea products. NACOFTAN’s ongoing efforts aim to ensure that Nigerian farmers, processors, and entrepreneurs are integrated into these opportunities through improved infrastructure, access to technology and financing, and international market linkages.
The Association believes that partnerships of this nature can contribute significantly to knowledge exchange, value addition, youth employment, rural livelihoods, and the long-term competitiveness of Nigeria’s beverage sector within Africa and beyond.
