The National Coffee and Tea Association of Nigeria (NACOFTAN) has successfully concluded its highly anticipated National Executive Election, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of Nigeria’s coffee and tea industry and reinforcing the association’s commitment to agricultural transformation, non-oil export growth, youth empowerment, and sustainable economic development.
The election, which was conducted in a peaceful, transparent, and credible manner under the supervision of an independent electoral committee, brought together key stakeholders from across Nigeria’s agriculture, agribusiness, manufacturing, export, and investment ecosystem.
The event witnessed the strong presence and participation of strategic institutions and industry stakeholders, including the Federation of Agricultural Commodity Associations of Nigeria (FACAN), the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI), coffee value chain operators, exporters, processors, development partners, investors, manufacturers, and agribusiness leaders.

Their participation further highlights the growing national recognition of Nigeria’s coffee and tea sector as a critical driver of agricultural diversification, rural development, agro-industrialization, export expansion, job creation, and foreign exchange generation.
Following the electoral process, Dr. Hassan Usman emerged as the President of NACOFTAN alongside a newly elected executive team expected to spearhead a new era of strategic growth, industry collaboration, policy advocacy, market expansion, and sector-wide innovation.
In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Hassan Usman emphasized the importance of unity, collaboration, and strategic execution in positioning Nigeria as a competitive player within the global coffee and tea market.
According to him, the newly elected administration will focus on:
- Strengthening Nigeria’s coffee and tea value chain
- Promoting specialty coffee production and quality improvement
- Enhancing export readiness and international market access
- Supporting sustainable coffee farming and climate-smart agriculture
- Empowering farmers, youth, and women within the agribusiness ecosystem
- Attracting local and foreign investment into Nigeria’s coffee sector
- Expanding coffee processing, manufacturing, and consumption opportunities
- Building stronger partnerships with government institutions and global stakeholders
Industry leaders present at the event described the election as a defining moment capable of repositioning Nigeria’s coffee industry within Africa and the international market.
Stakeholders also emphasized the enormous untapped opportunities within Nigeria’s coffee and tea sector, particularly in areas such as coffee & tea cultivation, processing, roasting, café culture, manufacturing, exports, tourism, hospitality, and youth entrepreneurship.
The election concluded with the official swearing-in of the newly elected executives, followed by goodwill messages from stakeholders and development partners who reaffirmed their support for the growth and sustainability of the association.
